Dealing with Sandy: concert postponed

We made our plans and mother nature had other ideas. Our Nov 2 benefit concert has been postponed, due to storm-related issues. We will let you know as soon as we have a new date set.

It can now be revealed that the secret guest instrumentalist was to be Terry Dearmore on harmonica. Hopefully we’ll be lucky enough to have Terry and Ogun play with us at the rescheduled event.

Feels like coming home again

The first time I walked into a Unity church, I felt like I was home. That was over 20 years ago in Gaithersburg. It was with friends at Unity that I picked up the guitar and started playing music again after a long dry spell. That trio, with Joe Loftus and Robert Cote, played for a lot of church services, as well as parties and gatherings and created lots of good memories for me.

So it feels like a homecoming to be back at Unity for a benefit concert. The Soulpajamas duo that Erin and I started has grown with the addition of Mandolin Rain (John Robbins on bass and Jeff Halverson on drums) as well as special guest, Ogun Holder on keyboard. These guys really bring the songs to life in a way I’ve never heard before.

Join us for a special evening of original Soulpajamas music, plus other familiar favorites. Hear Soulpajamas with full band on Friday Nov 2 at 7:30pm at Unity of Gaithersburg.

Soulpajamas 2.0

John, Dan, Erin, Jeff: Soulpajamas

Meet Soulpajamas 2.0. We’d been a duo for a long time, but we always recorded with a band and we performed with a band whenever possible. Now we are joined by John Robbins on guitar and bass and Jeff Halverson on drums and percussion. These two musicians bring a wealth of creativity and musicality to the band. Our first public appearance is Sunday Aug 26 at Unity of Gaithersburg, where we’ll be joined by Ogun Holder on keyboards.

Another date to keep in mind is Nov 2. We’ll bring the full band back to Unity of Gaithersburg for a benefit concert. We’ll be updating you with more dates soon.

2012 emPower Posi Music Festival

2012 is starting out on a high note for songwriters Dan Johnson and Roger Tomhave. Two of their songs were honored by emPower Posi Music. They performed the songs, Spirit Flow and Calling All the Children Home as well as other original positive songs at various venues within the music conference, including the main stage, late night pajama jams and song circles.

Say ‘yes’ to everything

Rule #1 for improv artists is say ‘yes’ to everything.

A last minute opportunity presented itself and we jumped. Thanks to a late cancellation, Soulpajamas is playing at Sounds of Hope this Friday with Jeff Wolf, drums and percussion and most likely without Erin, the upper half of Soulpajamas (the tops?). Erin is playing it by ear this time and may or may not show up for a cameo appearance. Be there to find out who else shows up.

If you work in DC and want to miss Friday evening rush hour, meander over to Adams Morgan at 7pm, enjoy a meal and the lively positive sounds of Soulpajamas minus one, and then uh, plus one. Jeff, an unofficial pajama, will add a whole nuther dimension to the usual Soulpajamas sound. We plan to be loose and spontaneous. Is that like organized chaos, jumbo shrimp? Whatever you call it, it will be fun and surprising.

Sounds of Hope is a benefit concert series that happens: EVERY FRIDAY NIGHT from 7pm to 10:30pm at The Potter’s House, 1658 Columbia Road NW; WDC 20009. The performers provide the Sounds and you provide the Hope, because your donations support a charity.

Will you be there? Say yes.
